2nd draft music video

This is our second draft music video, where we changed most clips as well as added some new ones, for example there are more shots of the group. We have moved some of the clips as well, to the chorus, to match the beat. We have also edited the end of the video, which we said we would do in the rough cut.

Feedback Response

As a group we looked at the feedback we received from the other groups, and responded, with what we would do to improve our video, for the final cut.

Feedback for the draft music video

This is the feedback we got from the other groups- feedback is incredibly important, as we need positive and negative comments in order for us to improve the video.

  • It’s a very fun video
  • The whole backdrop, projection scenes were used creatively
  • It’s clear the video is concept based
  • Some of the scenes look a bit empty and could be filled up with more people
  • The projection scenes could look even better if there was some sort of wind blowing the artist’s hair
  • Overall, it’s a very good first draft

  • You guys have a very creative concept and I really enjoyed seeing what you did with it! The whole theme with the group travelling around and enjoying themselves was interesting… But it disappeared halfway through the video in favour of shots of the artist alone. I think the video would really be helped by keeping this idea consistent within the video – a lot of the shots in the later half linger for too long, so a faster pace in general could help things a lot!

  • Genre: Indie/Pop
  • There are enough close up shots of the artist.
  • In terms of the camerawork, there were a range of camera angles (close up shot, low angle shots, etc.) and shots which relates to the genre.
  • Relates to the genre
  • Mise-en-scene is excellent. It relates well to the genre and conveys the star image appropriately.
  • Location is also great!
  • Props are well-used and effective conveys the concept.
  • Concept and Performance – EXCELLENT!
  • Overall, it was really good!
  • The music genre is very clear. The shots used are very clear and fits the music video. The angles used are also good. The editing fits the beat of the song. The costume and location fits the genre of the music. Maybe add more shots of different angles. Overall your music video is coming along really well. Good luck on your next draft

Rough cut music video

This is our rough cut for our music video; where we will get improvements on what to do next time, therefore making it easier to create the final music video, with comments and ideas to help us improve more.

Editing: Behind the scenes

Here are pictures of two of our group members editing the video. As a group we took it in turns to edit the video, as each of us brought different inputs/ideas to the music video.

Here is a screen recording example of what we have done to edit the beginning of our music video, from the video we have repeatedly used the blade tool in order to get the precise shot we wanted from that part of the video. Taking aboard the idea of the time-lapse, we speed up the video by 2x, in order for the clip to be faster than its usual speed to have a time-lapse effect. Throughout the video, we have used the blade tool, as well as the mark tool, where it would mark the precise spot where we wanted it to cut. It was crucial for us to get the cut on point, as it had to cut precisely on the beat, in order for a better impact.

Vlog: Amusement Scene

This is the behind the scenes for the amusement park scene.

What went well?
The park was what we were looking for, with all of the lights to emphasise the youth theme. The park was also quite empty, which was good so we didn't have to line up for the ride. We ended up getting a lot more footage, which was very good, so we have a lot more to edit on. The bumper car scene was done well, as we got shots of the main singer driving, and it was incredibly fun to film, which showed a lot in the footage.

What didn't go so well?
The weather was quite cold, so it was difficult to look energetic without the warmth. We also didn't expect the rides to cost so much so therefore only got one chance to go on the bumper cars, but it was for a long period of time, so it went smoothly. It was hard to film in the bumper cars, as obviously when we crashed the camera would be jogged out of my hand; but on the other hand, it was a hand-held camera movement, to get the point of view shot.

Vlog: Studio Scene

This is the behind the scenes for the studio parts, which would feature in the chorus section of our music video

What went well?
Everything was set up according to plan, with the projection videos put together in order for it to play automatically one after the other. The studio was perfect for our genre of music, as it was quite trendy with the brick white wall.
We also had two cameras to film different angles to quickly get the shots we needed. We tried out different shots, so we had a variety to chose from when we edit the actual music video.

What didn't go so well?
It would of been better if we had more time to film shots of the band together and separately, unfortunately we only got to film some scenes.

Vlog: Beach Scene

This is the behind the scenes for parts of the music video, most clips are for the main verses.

What went well?
The weather was good for the filming day, as we expected it to be raining. We arrived at the beach quite early so the tide was out, which was a perfect look for the music video, as we wanted a calm and serene scene for the background. We brought all the correct equipment in need for the day, so it went smoothly. We got the right shots, and more; so it was a very successful trip to Southend!

What didn't go so well?
We only had a limited amount of time, so therefore we couldn't film as much as we would of liked to as we had school and it was the only day everyone was free. The smoke bombs were quite unreliable as we discovered- one did not go off when we pulled the leaver, so therefore that was a waste. We ended up using most of the smoke bombs, so we bought more.

Vlog: Airport Scene

This is the behind the scenes also for the first part of our music video, filmed in Heathrow airport.

What went well?
We got the band's image spot on, as we planned the outfits in order to get the correct look for the journey.
We got various footage, and different shots; we also took many unplanned footage, so that we could have a variety for when we edit the actual music video.

What didn't go so well?
Due to filming in the airport, we tried not to film other people, as we wanted to focus on the band, so therefore it was difficult to get the correct shots.

Vlog: Liverpool Street & Canary Wharf

This is the behind the scenes for the first scene of our music video, which is Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf.

What went well?
We ended up getting the footage we wanted, with the correct shots, that we predicted would happen within the storyboard.

What didn't go so well?
For the Liverpool street station filming the tripod was quite crooked, so we ended up having to hold it to film the footage. It was also very cold and windy outside, which made it difficult to film outside footage.

Music video inspiration

Here I have gathered a collective group of inspiration I have gained off of other artist's music video.

This is a gif, of the band The Neighbourhood's 'Sweater weathervideo, they have used a projector to overlay previous clips from the video onto the band, in order to carry the whole concept in a whole different way by using scenery clips to relate it to the band. For the chorus, we would like to use the projector for the band scenes.

This gif are screenshots from Tom Odell's 'I Know' video, where he shot it, in a forest, with the light cutting through the trees, it is a nice scene to have for our video.

This is from the band Years & Year's video 'Take Shelter', where they have used smoke bombs in the background, making it immediately colourful and vibrant which brings a fun atmosphere in the video, which is, exactly what I want to recreate.

Beyonce's 'XO' video consists of her going around the theme park with a group of friends, which my group want to rein-act for one of our scenes in the amusement park. We want to film scenes on the bumper cars, as well as rides.

Screen test shoot

This is our artist, featured in our screen test shoot, where we filmed her from different angles, singing the first section of the song. Taking into account that this is just a test shoot, we will be aware of what we would actually do when filming the video, for example for her to pronounce the words properly, and with much more expression in order for the editing process to be easier. As well as the variety of shots we will be using, for example close-up shots of just her face, also mid and long shots. The screen test shoot was done in order to see how our artist would look as our main singer, and whether she was right for it- this was then tested through different angles and shots.

Organisation of props

This is the organisation of props, where we have planned what we shall include in the music video and where we are going to get them from if we need to. It is easier if we plan it beforehand so we know exactly what props we are going to include in the music video.

This is a table, showing all the props/equipment we will be going to use, and where we are going to get them from.

Risk assessment

The risk assessment was done in order to determine, if the risk we have considered is high or low, so that when we use or go to it, we are prepared; which will then help during our filming process.

Production Title: Pumpin Blood              Assessor: Kenya Mendoza
Date: 03/11/14                              Locations: Southend,                            Liverpool Street & Canary Wharf Station, Studio
Risk
Who is at risk?
Level of Risk
Control measure to be implemented

Sparklers

Crew and actors

9

Making sure that the sparklers are handled safely as it could lead to safety problems in injuring and burning the person

Stations (Liverpool Street & Canary Wharf)

Crew and actors

7

As the stations become overcrowded due to rush hour, the crew could be injured while filming these scenes due to the large amount of people where they could get squashed and trampled on. The crew should always be on a lookout that they are not in the way to prevent this from happening.

Stations (Liverpool Street & Canary Wharf)

The product (camera, equipment)

7

Making sure that the product is mounted on the tripod safely, due to the large crowds the camera may end up falling and breaking. In order to prevent this, the camera and equipment should be stored safely at all times.

Weather

Crew and actors

7

Checking the weather the day before filming, to ensure the weather is in good filming conditions

Theme Park

Crew and actors

8

Ensure that all crew and actors are safe during filming in the theme parks where it involves going on rides. To prevent any accidents, rides that are deemed too dangerous for filming should be avoided.

On location (beach scene)

Crew and actors

7

Scenes for the video include running around by the beach with a group of friends, actors could be injured due to tripping and to prevent this would ensure that the area is clear/safe enough to run around in.

Train

Crew and actors

7

While filming in the train, the actors and crew members could be injured or left behind. To prevent this, must make sure all crew and actors board the train together.

Band equipment

Crew and actors

9

Band equipment should be stored safely and should be placed in areas where it is less likely to cause any accidents. In order to do this, there must be a limited amount of people walking around while the band equipment is out to try and prevent any accidents.

Electrical wires

Crew, actors and product (lighting and camera)

9

If electrical wires are exposed, it could lead to the crew and actors tripping and causing injuries. It can also disturb filming as footage could be lost or the loss of lighting could interrupt a scene.

Mis en scene plans

         (Me and Kenya)

We made mise-en-scene plans; in order for our schedule to be organised we have planned out the locations, and what we see is going to be the outcome from each location for the music video.

Sourcing possible locations (Recce Template)

         (Samantha)

This is the Recce template for the possible locations, and what the possible issues, and how we shall overcome them; it shall help us during the process of making the music video, as we have analysed beforehand whether or not we will have any issues with the location, therefore making it easier to film.

Star image moodboard

The star image mood board will help us plan for what the main singer and band will wear during the music video; they are ideas of what they shall wear, making it easier on the day.

This is who our main singer would be, and how she would look like during the filming process out of the studio. These are also the outfits that the band would wear; it is based on our clothes, so therefore it would be comfortable, and easy to wear. Due to the cold weather during our filming times, it would be appropriate that the band would wear the outdoor coats when hanging outside. We as a group were looking for a minimalistic look therefore the colours are neutral and blend well together. The middle image is what our main singer would look like when wearing her outdoor clothing.

This would be the outfits the band would wear inside the studio. We as a group were discussing how when we film the studio scene for the chorus, we would wear all black, especially if we are going to project pictures/videos onto us, it would then come out clearer. The black colour also connotes a rebellious look, and due to our genre being indie it fits into the category. The top right hand corner is my photo which would symbolise what the band would actually look like.

Artist profile

This is the band biography explaining where they came from, as well as the artist profile, giving a brief biography of the main singer of the band.
