Moodboard

This is my mood board, I have used 'Thinglink', to explain some of the images featured. These are pictures that represent my ideas for the music video- it is the events that i see will be happening.
For example the beach images represent the southend scene where the band will run on the shore. The roller coaster and arcade pictures represent the scene where the band will go in the amusement park, and go on the rides etc. The black and white image on the right represents the performance based section of the music video, where pictures/videos will be projected onto the band while they perform.
The mood board shall help me, as each of the pictures represent what I see will be included in the video, so when we actually film it, it will be easier to visualise exactly what will happen.

Treatment for my music video

This is the worksheet, presenting my ideas for my music video, it will help me, as all of my ideas are spread out, therefore I can write in detail for what exactly I want to happen within the music video.

Annotated lyrics

This is the annotated lyric sheet, of where I picked out each lines, talking about what would happen during the video. The past analysis of narrative videos have also helped me, as now I can visualise what the meaning of each word would be.

Final chosen song

Artist: NONONO
Song title: Pumpin blood

From the evaluation of the three chosen songs, we have decided that this is our chosen song for our music video, due to the advantages below:

  • Fast pace editing pace
  • More ideas to involve in the video, as it matches the beat of the song
  • Meaningful lyrics
  • Very relatable to the lyrics, as we represent the ‘youth’
We have decided to choose this song, as we have already thought of possible ideas for the video, therefore it being easier for when the time comes to plan the video.

Codes and Conventions for rock

I have chosen rock to analyse in more detail, as me and my group are thinking of doing a similar genre to rock, therefore it is appropriate to analyse this genre, so for when we produce our video it shall be easier to include all of the correct codes and conventions.

Codes and conventions research task

I have picked three different genres, and have analysed four videos from each, to give me an understanding on what codes and conventions are for each, and what to include if i picked one of those genres.

Andrew Goodwin’s music video conventions

A relationship between the lyrics and visuals (illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics)
•A relationship between music and visuals
•A demand from the record company for lots of close-ups of the main artist
•Artist develops their own star iconography in and out of their videos
•Reference to voyeurism (screen within screen, binoculars, cameras…)
•Intertextual references
•Narrative, performance or concept based
•Particular genres may have their own video style and iconography

I will always refer back to Andrew Goodwin's conventions in order to see what our video should contain.

Introduction

The course brief is a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with:a cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package)and a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).

I also like editing which is why i have chosen AS Media studies. My aims for this coursework would be to produce an excellent music video along with the album cover, and Digi pack, as well as producing great work in between.
