Plan for photoshoot

This is the organisation of the photo shoot, most of the pictures for the album advert and digipak, have been already shot during the filming process on set.

These are the print screens of our planning for the photo shoot:

Here is the email thread, where me and my group have discussed what day we planned on having the photo shoot, and what to wear.
Here we have also asked our teacher, if we could book a media room for the photo shoot:

Digipak mock

This is my mock for my Digipak. From the inspiration I got from the moodboard, I knew exactly what to do for each of the sections on my digipak. I wanted to incorporate the smoke bombs within my digipak so therefore I overlaid the pink smoke bombs onto the bands image for the front cover. For my CD cover, I envisioned a scenery image for it, so therefore I chose a simple picture of a sky, but in a black and white effect to relate it to the band's name. For the track list, I again wanted to place a smoke bomb image but in black and white, so that the actual song titles would stand out. I have also used a pink font to match the album cover, therefore creating a house style. I have adhered to the codes and conventions, as I have included the copyright text, the barcode, the band's website, as well as the record labels. For the three other inside images, I envisioned close-up, candid shots of each of the band members, and then I would overlay different images of the band together on each of their separate shots- which I have clearly edited and shown my idea through this digipak mock.

Album advert mock

This is my album advert mock; I have used images of a girl band called 'Haim' to represent my band- therefore all of the images are sourced from the internet. I had a clear picture of what I wanted to include in my advert, from my moodboard. I wanted to overlay pictures of the band, so therefore for the actual advert I have used two images, which are overlaid, to make it more interesting and relatable to the CD cover. The fact that the background is in black and white, it relates to the actual band name 'Black out'. I have chosen to stick with the colour black, for all of the fonts in order for the words to stand out. I have used the Logo design which was chosen by my audience for the band's name, and have included the name of the album beneath it. I have adhered to the codes and conventions of an album advert, and have included the band's website and record label at the bottom left hand corner. I have also
included a QR code on the right hand corner, in order for it to be an interactive device for my audience to use- and an easier way to get information across. I have also added the magazine star reviews on either side of the advert to attract the audience's attention. The text that is normally on album adverts is 'The debut album featuring the hit single' to actually draw the audience's attention to the artist's album. 'Pumpin blood'- which is the title of our music video, is in pink in order to go with the album cover, and house style.

Digipak Layout

Here I have drawn the layout of how I want my digipak to be. So that when I actually do the mock-up, I know exactly where to put the things needed for the digipak. As well as to know what kind of shots to take when I plan the photo shoot.

Album Advert Layout

Here I have drawn the layout of how I want my album advert to be. So that when i actually do the mock-up, I know exactly where to put the things needed for the advert. It shall also help me to decide where to position the band members for when I take the pictures for the digipak and album advert.

Logo Design Poll Results

For the logo design poll I have used 'SurveyMonkey'. This print screen shows the logo design that my audience preferred, so therefore I would use the first design for my band's name.

Logo Designs

In order to complete my Digipak, and album advert I would have to have a logo design for my band's name, so therefore, I have chosen the four most relatable designs to my genre, either it being a simple block font to emphasise their boldness, or a handwritten font to highlight the band's personality. I have then produced a poll in order to see what my audience prefers out of the four.

Digipak moodboard

These two moodboards are for my Digipak, all the images were put together to give me an idea of what exactly I wanted for my Digipak. I also edited some of my own images, in order for it to be clearer and easier for when I actually edit the final Digipack.

Album advert moodboard

I have made an album advert moodboard to inspire me, and to get different ideas together, and try to break it down, into a more simpler theme. I have put together a variety of images, which each of them are explained in more depth as I have used 'Thinglink'. This moodboard will then help me to actually decide on what exactly I want for the advert, and to help me actually think of the kind of shots/angles I want the band to be in, as well as the different editing techniques I would want to produce my advert with.

Audience feedback evaluation for final music video

This is the audience feedback for the final music video, we created four main questions which was asked to evaluate the music video. With the help from our target audience it provides us with their opinions, and with the finalisation of the music video, it gives us a brief idea, if what we have done meets the standards and expectations we intended to meet for our audience.

Final music video

With the feedback we have gathered, we added various clips of the band, as it did not look like they were a band due to quite a lot of close-up shots of the main singer. We added separate shots of the other members of the band, as well as with them all together, to get the sense of unity. We also tried to edit most of the clips, so there was a faster pace of editing, as the beats were quite fast.

Digipak analysis

Powered by emaze

Here I have analysed three digipaks, all of which are the same/similar genre to mine. In order to get a better understanding, of digipaks and their codes and conventions, so when the time comes, it shall be easier for me to produce my digipak.

Magazine Album Advert Analysis

The name of the artist is Kings of Leon. This connotes a symbol of dominance, and fellowship with the word ‘Kings’ as this means rulers; therefore it is a powerful word to feature as the name of their band. It gives a meaningful and personal touch to the band with a sense of collectiveness.

The font/lettering is in a sort of typewriter font all in capitals, which closely links to the camcorder logo in the left hand corner, as the whole poster could have been put together to make it look like we as the audience are looking through a camera or binoculars. As well as this due to the image being related to an animal, it is almost as if we are the hunters, yet it is intimidating due to the menacing predator.

The target audience for this album advert would be both genders, but dominantly the male gender aged 17+ as it could reach out to many teens due to them relating to the rebellious rock theme. Due to the colour theme being quite dark, and the colour being green, it would mainly attract the male gender, as this is the stereotypical colour usually used to attract males. The advert is appealing to the target audience, as it is very outgoing, and artistic with the use of the eagle.

The album title is called ‘Only by the night’ connoting a sort of danger theme, as you do not know what lurks in the dark, therefore maybe it being about the unknown. Due to Kings of Leon being a rock band it may also symbolise their rebellious side, as it could represent their dark side. The dominant colour of the title is green, which clearly links back to the dominant image therefore making it stand our even more, as it is emphasising the image.

The dominant image within the front cover is the band members; there are four sections of the image, to show the clear separation of each band member. Each shot is different, as all four images make up one, which is the eagle. The bird is then overlaid on top of the band members, almost making it look like it is their spirit animal- something that may represent them as a band.  The eagle could represent freedom, and especially due to it relating to the name of their album ‘Only by the night’- eagles are skilled hunters therefore emphasising the name further. They are also seen as a symbol of power which then relates to some of Kings of Leon songs, and how most of their music is quite powerful due to them being a rock band. The image is also in a light green tint, relating it back to the night theme; it is commonly known to be a night vision colour, as that is what you see with binoculars. Through the theme, the genre could be noticeable, due to the dark theme linking to the rebellious side of the rock genre. Their physical appearance would draw the audiences’ attention towards the poster, with direct mode of address, as the poster presents a close-up shot of the band members making it more intimate. Their clothing is only seen through the bottom, two members of the band: one is wearing a white shirt with the second a jacket and white shirt- this could maybe symbolise individuality within the band, as due to their being four members sometimes you need to stand out in order to get noticed. The facial expressions are quite serious, this then relates to the eagle, and the characteristics the animal holds, as they are always incredibly alert and focused, so maybe the band is trying to imitate the same thing. The attitudes and values associated with this genre is that their value would be to stay genuine, especially towards their fans; without being imbibed into the mainstream music industry, and being pushed towards the limelight. They would only focus on their music, and that is how they stay down to earth amongst their fan base, as their goal is not to earn an excessive amount of money but to produce good music meaning they do not adopt mainstream lifestyle and ideology.

The name of the artist is The Script This connotes something to do with music, as script in the music industry would be the lyrics, therefore closely linking their band to their music.

The font/lettering is best described as a bold, trendy font, with the three letters cut at the end; it is formatted in a way that it would attract your attention, as it is unique. Their font could symbolise them as a band, and that they are bold, especially with their music, and maybe with their lyrics and how they sing.

The target audience for this album advert would be both genders, but mainly males aged 17+ due to the simplicity of the poster, and due to the edgy sort of look with the dominant image being very artistic.

The title of the album is ‘#3’, this signifies their band, and how there are only three members, it is quite a symbolic number, and is normally seen as something powerful, for example it is common in religious terms, and is known to be something powerful, when together.

The dominant colours are black and white, this then connotes, a classic theme, which is very minimalistic and simple, therefore it being easy for the main image to be the dominant attraction within the poster. Due to the image being the band, it is eye-catching, as they are the main focus. The way they are positioned and edited is very unique and clever, as the other two band members are edited to overlay onto the main singer. This is cleverly edited in order to relate to the album name, as there are three members; it is almost as if they are shown to be one, therefore emphasising their closeness as a band. Each band member is looking in a different direction, with the middle member giving direct mode of address, which then attracts the audience. With the edit of the band members being pieced together, overlaid onto the main singer, it connotes the intimate relationship they have as friends, and that almost he sees their characteristics being as one, that they are all similar to one another, which emphasises their friendship as a band. The Script would fit into the pop rock genre which is signified by the simple edit of the dominant image, as the third band member looks as if he is in a performance and playing a guitar which would then relate to the genre of rock. The whole black and white theme of their advert emphasises their classic effect, almost staying true to their genre. The attitudes and values associated with the pop rock genre is that their value would be to stay sincere, especially towards their fans. The connotation associated with this genre is a catchy pop style and light lyrics in its (typically) guitar-based rock songs. They would focus on their music, and that is how they stay down to earth amongst their fan base, as their goal is not to earn an excessive amount of money but to produce good music.

The name of the artist is ‘Lana Del Rey’. It is an incredibly catchy name, therefore making it easy for the audience to remember.

The font/lettering is best described as thin and bold white font which would relate to the artist, and that maybe she is bold also; relating not just to her characteristics, but within her music also. The colour of the font also matches the dominant image, as the sky matches the title ‘Born to die’ and her white t-shirt matches with ‘Lana Del Rey'. With a house style, it makes the album advert easier to be drawn to, as it is aesthetically appealing.

The target audience for this album advert would be both genders, but mainly females aged 16+ due to the bright colours, her fashion could also attract many teenage girls.

The title of the album is ‘Born to die’, connoting a deeper meaning, which would obviously be revealed if you listen to her album, which means this advert has done its work, by actually intriguing the audience to listen to her album. The title of the album juxtaposes the actual dominant image, as due to the bright colours it connotes a happy theme, whereas the actual title seems quite dark. So therefore it may mean a good girl living on the wild side, so therefore her appearance is the ‘good girl’ and her actual album featuring all her songs is the wild side of her. This then gives the audience something extra if they buy the album, almost as if she is opening herself towards the fans. Her facial expression is quite serious, which then connotes that maybe she is an enigma, which if you actually listen to her album then maybe you can get to figure her out.

The dominant image within the front cover is of Lana Del Rey, it is a mid-shot at a low angle with direct mode of address. Her clothing is an opaque white shirt which reveals a pink bra underneath. Her hair is styled with big curls, as well as large hoop earrings. The only make-up she is wearing is light red lipstick; her style is vintage, which then matches the kind of theme of the whole advert, as the effect looks old. With all of this in mind, the genre Lana Del Rey would fit into would be indie pop, due to the bright colours, and vintage effect, it connotes a sort of fun theme. The simplicity of her poster makes her fit into the genre of indie pop so the attitudes and values associated with this genre is that their value would be to stay honest, especially towards their fans. They would only focus on their music, and that is how they stay down to earth amongst their fan base, as their goal is not to earn an excessive amount of money but to produce good music.
